Hindustan Motors has launched an updated version of the Mitsubishi Montero, which gets new features and some changes to the exteriors. The Montero gets a new front bumper, chrome radiator grille, new stitch design on leather seats, new finish on power window panel and new interior illumination colour. The Montero continues to b powered by the same 3.2-litre turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine. This DOHC oil burner produces 202 PS of peak power at 3800 RPM and 441 Nm of peak torque at 2000 RPM. The Montero is available in solid white, cool silver metallic and black mica colours.
The Mitsubishi Montero is a very capable machine but overpriced and ignored by HM. The vehicle is priced exorbitantly at close to Rs. 51 lakhs (on-road, Mumbai) and is brought in as a CBU. Indians are very badge conscious and at the same price one can buy the top end BMW X3 or Audi Q5, with both of them being powered by more powerful 3.0-litre diesel engines. The BMW X3 3.0-litre diesel produces 258 BHP of power and 560 Nm of torque, while the Audi Q5 3-0-litre TDi produces 240 BHP of power and 500 Nm of torque. Other than the extra two seats in the Montero and off-road capability (very few actually go off-road), there is absolutely no reason to get the Montero (over the Germans), considering the lack of seriousness of the HM-Mitsubishi in the Indian market.
